Despite the YCP’s statewide victory in the recent municipal elections in AP, the TDP has won the Prakasam district seat as well as the Krishna district Kondapalli city panchayat. In Darshi, the YCP tried till the last minute to block the election of the city panchayat chairman and vice-chairman in Kondapalli. The High Court today put a brake on the YCP’s efforts to block the polls, knowing they had no strength.
The High Court today issued key directions to hold the Kondapalli Municipal Chairman and Vice Chairman elections tomorrow amid police security. It also ordered police to provide security to councilors. In fact, in the latest elections, elections were held for 29 wards. TDP and YCP won in 14 wards each. Another ward was won by Independent Srilakshmi. She then declared support for the TDP. At the same time, TDP local MP Keshineni Nani was registered as a member of the Co-option. This brought the TDP strength to 16. With this, the authorities were ready to hold elections. But the YCP has begun efforts to prevent this anyway.
