The crucial voting process continues in the election process of the five states that are considered to be the mini-struggle in the country. Polling in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry started from 7 am on Tuesday. Also, the third phase of polling has started in West Bengal and Assam. In many parts of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, large crowds were seen reaching polling stations before 7 am.

Elections are being held today in three places in the south (Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry) in a single phase. A total of 3,998 candidates are vying for 234 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu. Makkal Needi Mayum (MNM) chief Kamal Haasan along with his daughters Shruti Haasan and Akshara cast their votes in the morning at Teinampeta in Chennai.
A small earthquake shook Assam during the third phase of polling. The quake struck near Tinsukia at 3.42am on Tuesday. The epicenter was reported below the Pacific Ocean floor, however; no tsunami alert was issued. The quake affected several parts of Assam on Tuesday morning. Voter turnout at polling stations in West Bengal has been high since Tuesday morning, in line with expectations that the turnout would be higher in the third phase. A large number of women stood in the queuelines. Tight security arrangements were made in sensitive areas. One of the two polling booths had technical problems with the EVMs and Easy resolved them immediately. Polling will continue until 5 pm in four states and one union territory.
