Villagers rushed to the spot after hearing the elephant calf screams. Devli informed the Forest Range authorities. Authorities responded immediately after receiving the information. The rescue operation lasted for about 15 hours. At first they tried to pull it out by tying the belts down the ladder to bring it out. That was not possible. With that the JCBs were brought in and dug parallel to the borehole.
The borehole area was large, making it easy to maintain as the borehole was trapped at a depth of 15 feet. The large area of the borehole did not interfere with the supply of oxygen, although forest officials took precautionary measures. After toiling for 15 hours, the baby elephant was rescued. Three feet in area it was trapped and injured. As soon as it came out it ran into the woods.
