Born into a Rajput family
Milkasingh was born on November 20, 1932, in Govindpura, Punjab, Pakistan. Milkasingh was born into the Sikrathod Rajput family and joined the Indian Army in 1951. Milkasingh finished sixth in the Army-run race. He later became an athlete. Milkasingh has an inseparable connection with Hyderabad. Milkasingh trained for 9 years in Secunderabad. He then went on to win gold at the 1958 Commonwealth Games. Won four golds at the 1958 Tokyo and 1962 Jakarta Asian Games. He finished fourth in the 400 meters at the 1960 Rome Olympics. His daring on the track left an indelible mark on the hearts of the fans.

Milkasingh’s wife Nirmal Kaur died on June 14 after battling a corona virus. The family was plunged into tragedy when he disappeared five days after his wife died. The stadium was dumbfounded by his death. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee were shocked to learn of the death. The family mourned the loss of the great man.

Milkha Singh’s wife, former Indian volleyball captain Nirmal Milkha Singh Kovid-19. She is 85 years old. She was admitted to a private hospital in Chandigarh last month with a corona positive infection. She has been receiving treatment ever since but closed her eyes on Sunday afternoon due to health concerns. Milona Singh is also being treated at the same hospital along with Corona. Doctors said his health condition was improving. Family members said he was under medical supervision and was unable to attend his wife’s funeral.
Nirmal Milkha Singh is a former Director of Sports in the Government of Punjab and also captained the Indian women’s national volleyball team. In 1955, Nirmal also traveled to Sri Lanka to compete in women’s volleyball. At national and international competitions, she caught everyone’s attention by wearing salwar-kameez instead of skirts. Doctors said Milkha Singh could be discharged in a few days as his health is deteriorating. But meanwhile he died.
