After giving three back to back articles to HTC, today I’ve taken a very big risk of writing a music review for Kamal Haasan’s Uthama Villain. And Thank You HTC for giving me this chance. I wasn’t able to listen to the songs on the very first day of it’s release as the copies all were sold out in my town. I’d to wait for another whole day, till my friend get me one from her town and send me. Listening to the whole album at 2 am is really something very special which didn’t make me to sleep but wanted to hear it again and again. And I’ve to say this that the music director of Uthama Villain, Mr.Ghibran is an alumni of The Lasalle College of Arts, Singapore. And I’m proud saying this because I’m another alumni.
Uttama Villain is one of the most awaited film, which stars the Universal Hero Kamal Haasan and directed by Ramesh Arvind and produced by Lingusamy – Thirupathi Brothers in associate with Raaj Kamal Films International. Mr.Ghibran has composed 7 songs, 7 OST’s and 3 karaoke.
Here I will list out the review from my most favourite one to favourite.
1. Love’aa Love’aa
Elantrophic pop, Psychedelic chants trance like EDM and quirky voices along with purposefully programmed jaring beats are this songs strong elements. Kamal’s rendition and Sharanya’s Usha Uthoop like range adds juxtaposing flavor to this uniquely sound
track. The coustic guitarist sets the pace and establishes the soul of the song. Ghibran is exploring beyond the horizons.
2. Mutharasan Kathai
English horn and Mridangam in one single song? Why not? An animation of emotion ranging from cartoon like funny portions to intriguing arrangements creating fear. With symphonic orchestra chipping in, this song has all the elements to be called purely
3. Kaadalam Kadavul Munn
Beginning with the drums and dwelling into scintillating voice with brilliant Gamaka’s, a
carnatic number that is sure to be used for Bharathanatyam ballets. With the effects of the
Kanjira and Mridangam and chimes are all pure ingenuity.
Begins with Harikambhoji and deviates to alien notes in between the compposition is
outrageous cry. A light classical composition treated with unusual elements like using
electronic beats and playing accents with grand piano. Ektara to kindle and Kamal’s range
of being a soprano is jaw dropping.
5. Uthaman Arimugam
The morsing gives the ideal stant to a villupaatu that’s busy telling a story. The track easily
changes from Mayamalagowla scale to Shankarabharanam base. The group singing,
created lively rhythms by bhols, Kamal’s soulful voice especially in the Thisra nadai is
6. Iraniyan Naadagam
A monologue driven by a sing song pattern, a potpourri of genre, involving ball room
music to a carnatic to opera to hard rock to what not? Possibly a visually driven piece,
establishing a journey. The lead vocals follow the wonderful carnatic touch which has the
touch of Shankarabharanam raaga with slight deviated notes. A highly orchestrated track
with brass sections, syncopated rhythms and deadly bass lines. A listening experience than
to be termed as a song.
7. Uthama Kadhai
From a pallavi to a sudden out burst of tunes and some dialogues driven sequences in the
middle, Uthama kadhai narrates a story using woodminds, brass and strings.
