The most happening actor in kollywood is Makkal selvan ‘Vijaysethupathi‘ whose hitherto flicks released this year have become profitable one, suave actor’s first full fledged commercial outing is Rekka which came to limelight today with much buzz. Rathina Shiva of ‘Vaa deal’ fame have helmed this rural action entertainer starring Vijaysethupathi and Lakshmi Menon in leading characters where Sathish and KS Ravikumar have done a significant supporting persona. The gritty protagonist abducts a teenage girl due to unavoidable circumstances, the aftermath of this kidnap causes problem to protagonist’s family, then how the hero unravel this issue forms the remaining story.
Movie commences with usual typical fashion introduction song which is new to Vijaysethupathi who essayed a advocate role for the first time in his career. The action sequences were minimum in first half, mostly family drama is depicted in the first half where the core plot kickstarts towards the interval with the kidnapping sequences. The female lead introduction comes towards the intermission portion , the love song featuring lead pair gives mediocre feel due to completely wrong placement in the screenplay. The first half ends with less impactful fashion which sets stage for the furthur proceedings.
After a moderate first half, viewers were expecting a intense screenplay in the second half but it continues with a same mediocre narration which addition of multitude of song sequences which gives a tedious feel to the audiences. The flashback portion featuring Kishore evokes even more dull moment and tests our patiences. The talented artist like Vijaysethupathi is completely wasted by the below average narration with plenty of tedious sequences. The baddie persona portrayed by Harish uthaman and Kabir were failed to create impact and they had very less scope to score. Female lead lakshmi persona looks meaningless and the actress appears only in song with less meaty character. The climax fight portion were shot in disastrous way and ends in moderate manner.
The supporting artists including KS Ravikumar, Sathish, Kishore have essayed decent justice to their roles but it looked less impactful, Antagonists appeared like passing cloud which irritates the viewers. Heroine Lakshmi have portrayed a very poor performances.
The positive ingredients are the action block which was picturised in subtle fashion, technical crew have done their part well to elevate the movie. This entertainer has more of downsides such as below average execution of the plot with more of loopholes. Wrong song placement in both first and second half, irritating performance from the female lead, protagonist tries his best to enhance the plot but poor screenplay spoils the sport.
Filmmaker Rathina Shiva must have executed a intense script with more twist and turns, he could have injected meaty roles for supporting artists especially the antagonist and female role. He should concentrate more on intense narration in his forthcoming ventures.
Verdict- A mediocre action flick packed with more of tedious elements
